SDCC Announcement IDW Games Brings 90s Nick to Life

first_imgStay on target This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con IDW Games, a division of IDW Entertainment, announced that they will be putting a series of tabletop board games based on beloved Nickelodeon franchises from the 90’s! The different games released will have the rights to characters from Rocko’s Modern Life and Hey Arnold! which are both receiving animated revivals next year as well as characters from Rugrats, Invader Zim, The Wild Thornberrys, CatDog, The Angry Beavers, Rocket Power, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, The Ren & Stimpy Show and SpongeBob SquarePants who’s enjoyed consistent success over the years. Although IDW Comics has the exclusive rights to publishing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics; don’t expect them to be showing up in any of their board games anytime soon. The first Nickelodeon tabletop game from IDW Games will be available in Spring of 2018 and titled Nickelodeon Splat Attack! Those familiar with Nickelodeon will recognize that the word splat (not to be confused with Gak) has been used many times over the years to describe different blocks of programming. As the name implies, Splat Attack will feature characters from all the different franchises in teams. The different teams will have to duel each other in an epic food fight to rule them all, or just the food court. One of those. This will also give you and your friends the chance to play as your favorite characters or to fight over who gets to be Rocko like all the cool kids are gonna do.These games being rolled out by IDW are being designed by seasoned gamer vets Daryl Andrews and Michael Gray. We’ve been promised highly detailed miniatures, so even if you don’t like gaming you may want these games just for those miniatures! Don’t be surprised if you find people trying to sell them off individually if they’re as good as we’re all hoping. While IDW Games will be the exclusive home to these franchises, don’t expect to see them having all the rights to the comics anytime soon. Although IDW is the proud home of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, many of the other franchises are all over the place. BOOM! Studios recently became the home of the new Rugrats comics, Oni Press has Invader Zim, SpongeBob is over at Bongo, and Papercutz is home to some of the newer franchises. Only one of the Nickelodeon board games has been announced so far, but keep checking back for more details as we’re sure to get a lot more Nickelodeon board game announcements before next Spring!Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.
