first_imgThe holidays are often regarded as a time of gift giving and reflection. As I reflect on the gifts most important to me, I am drawn to my time in the service of others. To me, education is a powerful gift and is something I am blessed with doing each and every day. There is nothing more rewarding than watching the eyes of our students light up in the classroom when they are truly engaged in learning. The wonder and curiosity instilled in the minds of our students by our teachers is life changing. When I think of the possibilities of a young person’s future sparked by an idea, a program, a book, a teacher, a mentor, or a parent, I feel both blessed and inspired.Knowing that our students feel valued and believe they have a bright future ahead of them is something we are working toward each and every day for every child. It’s the gifts of time, patience, and encouragement we all contribute, as we nurture our students in the course of their development, always with the belief that every child can succeed. While this is the time of year to celebrate with friends and family as we look to the year ahead, I think of how important it is that we spend time acknowledging and honoring the accomplishments and potential of the students in our lives, neighborhoods, and communities. It is through our collective encouragement and our belief that every child can succeed that makes PUSD and the communities we serve vibrant and strong.I too wish to thank our parents, extended family members, and partners for your support and for your many contributions in enriching the educational opportunities of our students. Through your support at home, engagement in school, and abundant donations of time and charitable support, PUSD students are better off. Thank you for your care and spirit of service to our students. On behalf of the Pasadena Unified School District, my best wishes to you and your families during the holidays.Thank you for making PUSD a District of First Choice.Students, see you back at school on Monday, January 4, 2016.
