Because of his role as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal, certain conflict of interest issues were raised. However, all the buzz was around Ganguly teaming up with one of his erstwhile arch-rivals, Ricky Ponting. As it turned out, the presence of two of the most astute minds in world cricket has certainly helped the young Delhi Capitals unit in IPL 2019.Quite a few players, including captain Shreyas Iyer, young Prithvi Shaw, and seasoned opener Shikhar Dhawan, have talked up the role of Ganguly and Ponting in helping the team perform the way they have in the ongoing season.Delhi Capitals, who had briefly the table-toppers, are now in the second spot of the eight-team IPL 2019 points table. With 14 points from 11 matches, Delhi Capitals are well set to make the playoffs for the first time since 2012.Speaking at a promotional event in Kolkata, Ganguly, advisor of the Delhi Capitals said: “I don’t play and it is not possible for me to do it alone. It is always the players who are responsible.”Ganguly has been a regular member of the Delhi Capitals’ dugout in the ongoing season. The former captain, known for his aggression, has been quite expressive during his stints at the dugout.advertisementHeaping praise on Ganguly’s passion for the job, Ponting said the Delhi Capitals advisor has been wearning his heart on his sleeves.”He is being terrific. He is very passionate. I am not sure how closely you guys are watching what’s happening in the dugout,” Ponting said.”I can quite often get a little bit carried away with what’s happening in the middle but he is a bit more out there than me, wearing his heart on his sleeves.”It’s good to have someone with his knowledge in Indian conditions. Certainly, his knowledge about the local talent helps. He loves spending one-on-one time with the players and I guess you can’t argue so far. Things are going pretty good so far for us.”Meanwhile, Ganguly backed his former IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders to buck poor form. Under Dinesh Karthik’s captaincy, KKR have lost five on the trot and are in danger of not making the playoffs after a strong start.”KKR is a fantastic side, its just four-five games. This can happen,” Ganguly added. Also Read | India made the wrong choice by leaving Rishabh Pant out of World Cup squad: Ricky PontingAlso Read | CSK reclaim top spot but MS Dhoni is not revealing any trade secretsAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
