Emirates is celebrating 15 years of flying to Perth this month after commencing services in August 2002. Originally operating 4 flights a week, Emirates now flies twice daily between Perth and Emirates’ hub in Dubai, including one service operated by its iconic A380 aircraft.Since its launch in 2002, Emirates has carried more than 4.5 million passengers on this route, connecting travellers from around the world to the Western Australian capital.Barry Brown, Emirates Divisional Vice President for Australasia, said this milestone is a testament to the airline’s ongoing commitment to the Perth market.“We’re thrilled to be celebrating 15 years of flying into Perth which has become an important part of Emirates’ history in Australia. This route was the first ever non-stop connection between the Middle East and Australia, highlighting the role it has played in creating connections with Australia and the rest of the world,” said Brown.In 2015, Emirates introduced its A380 aircraft to Perth which was the first A380 service in Western Australia, providing a revolutionary double-decker aircraft to transport passengers between Perth and Emirates’ cosmopolitan hub, Dubai.Emirates upgraded and unveiled a stylish new Lounge at Perth International Airport in late 2015 with improved facilities for travellers. Emirates passengers also enjoy up to 20MB complimentary onboard Wi-Fi, generous baggage allowances and more than 2500 channels on Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system, ice.From a cargo perspective, Emirates is a large international cargo carrier in Perth. While overall, including both international and domestic cargo, Emirates is the third largest cargo carrier in this market.Emirates operates 14 flights per week between Perth and Dubai, bringing its total Australian services to 77 weekly flights, including services to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
